Cabinet approves Digital Agriculture Mission

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the Digital Agriculture Mission with an outlay of Rs. 2,817 crore, including a central share of Rs. 1,940 crore. The mission aims to transform the agricultural sector through technology, establishing a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for agriculture. Key components include the AgriStack, which features a Farmers' Registry, Geo-referenced Village Maps, and a Crop Sown Registry, as well as the Krishi Decision Support System (DSS) to provide unified information on crops, soil, weather, and water resources. The initiative is expected to enhance farmers' access to credit and insurance, streamline direct benefit transfers, and offer personalized advisories based on data. Implementation will involve collaboration with State Governments, which will sign MoUs with the Ministry of Agriculture.
