The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the Digital Agriculture Mission with an overall outlay of Rs. 2,817 crore, including a central share of Rs. 1,940 crore. The mission aims to transform the agricultural sector by utilizing technology to enhance farmers' lives and establish a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for agriculture. Key components include the AgriStack, which features a Farmers' Registry, Geo-referenced Village Maps, and a Crop Sown Registry, along with the Krishi Decision Support System (DSS) that provides geospatial information on crops, soil, weather, and water resources. The mission is expected to improve access to credit and insurance for farmers and facilitate direct benefit transfers. Implementation will occur in collaboration with State Governments from 2024 to 2026.
